In recent months, Misneach, a new young all-female hip hop group (all aged 14 – 17 years) from The Kabin Studio created three amazing songs and music videos with GMCBeats promoting female empowerment with the goal of encouraging young women to be themselves, and educating the community on the many challenges they face.
The Misneach project was supported by St. Patrick’s Festival x TikTok Creative Fund. Additional support by Foróige Link Point, Bank of Ireland Begin Together Fund, Cork ETB, Music Generation Cork City, It’s OK Cork, Léargas / European Solidarity Project & GMCBeats Workshops.
The project was carried out at The Kabin Studio which is a creative space (provided by Cork ETB and run be GMCBeats supported by MGCC) for young people in Knocknaheeny. The Kabin encourages self-confidence, creativity and musical passions, providing a safe space for young people to express themselves through music and art and to make friends.
The three songs & videos are:
- No Worries – Dedicated to the nurturing female figures from childhood.
- Pressure – This is a song about how some women feel under pressure to look a certain way with the constant need to uphold unrealistic beauty standards shown in the media. This song is to show women that there is no such thing as the “perfect look” and that each woman is beautiful in their own way.
- Shine Through – This is a song about empowerment, being yourself and not letting other people dictate your life for you and for the members of Misneach, taking pride in their femininity.
