Diverse Music Education

Music Generation Cork City’s music programmes, delivered in partnership with community-based music education providers, encompass brass, wind and percussion; guitar groups; saxophone ensembles; rap & beats workshops; pop/rock groups; a trad orchestra; music technology and production workshops; beginner and youth brass bands; early years music education; choral programmes; inclusive music making for young people with and without disabilities, and much more.

Diversity is reflected in the variety of approaches to music tuition and music making, in school based and community settings. Teaching styles include formal, informal and non-formal methods. Team teaching is encouraged, and learners are taught in large groups, small groups and one-to-one.

The programme is constantly developing and informed by research and consultation. Continuing professional development opportunities are provided for tutors.

Inspire

Music Generation Cork City views performance and creative music making as an essential element of musical life.

Working with partner providers, children and young people have taken part in music events and performances in venues such as Cork Opera House, Cork City Hall, CIT Cork School of Music, Fitzgerald’s Park, Triskel Christchurch, UCC School of Music & Theatre, Cork Vision Centre, The Kino and more. Performances and workshops regularly take place in schools and communities.

Music Generation Cork City takes pride in its highly experienced and qualified team of musicians who are selected in consultation with partner providers for all programmes. Guest artists occasionally collaborate on programmes with partner providers.
