We are so immensely proud of the group of young musicians who travelled to Dublin on Thursday 23rd May 2024 to perform their original song ‘Music is our Home’ at the inaugural Child Poverty and Well-being Summit at Dublin Castle, hosted by An Taoiseach Simon Harris.
Leah, Toby, Lyneisha, Patrick, Logan, Katie, Charlotte and Ciara came together from Mahon, Mayfield and Knocknaheeny to write and rehearse this specially commissioned song for the event, together with their musician-educators Rory McGovern, Seán Murphy, Amy McNamara and Ben Janning.
The brief they were given was to write a song which reflects “the impact of music on children and young people’s lives, how the opportunity to participate in music helps children and young people feel more included, and how that contributes to their overall wellbeing and holistic development” and the group more than delivered on that. Their music and lyrics are filled with meaning and authenticity:
Whenever you feel hidden, music will make you seen.
Whenever you feel silenced, music can help you dream.
What are you gonna do?
When music’s calling you?
