In a year unlike any other, our team are working hard to make music education happen!
Learners and teachers alike have adopted online learning in many places, while some of our Music MashUp programmes, including at Scoil Bernadette, Cork Life Centre, School of Divine Child, and St. Killian’s are back teaching in a live environment. Youth Work Ireland Cork have also got music-making happening in The Hut, Gurranabraher; and GMC Beats are still making beats at The Kabin, Knocknaheeny!
Changing the way learning happens hasn’t hindered the creative flow either- many of our programmes are collaborating with each other on some brand-new tracks! Our programmes in Cork City Learning Support Services and Music in Community have been very active and have passed their tracks on for collaboration to musicians in Creative Tradition and Foróige Link Point programmes. We cannot wait to share the results of all of this activity!
Another project in the works is a virtual collaboration of our young brass players with the brass players in neighbouring Music Generation Waterford. The aim of this project is to co-record a version of Jingle Bell Rock in time for Christmas, and create some bonds along the way!
Meanwhile, some young musicians from our Mahon Community Hub were recently involved in a filming for TV but shhh! Details of that will remain sealed until it airs nationally in January- watch this space!
Speaking of filming, some young music makers at The Kabin Studios are hard at work on musical collaboration with two of Cork’s most exciting arts organisations- details of this project will be announced in the coming weeks.
With teaching terms drawing to a close in December, we’re looking at making performances happen around the city. It won’t be our normal end of term concerts, but with some imagination we’ll be able to provide a playing opportunity for our groups while staying safely within the level of public health restrictions. It will be great to sing, play, and lift spirits for everyone involved- look out for a video of this event too!
Keep safe and keep practicing!
