Rory McGovern

Rory McGovern is a multi instrumentalist, composer, producer, arranger and music educator based in Cork city. He has worked with Music Generation Cork City for over a decade where he facilitates and takes part in many music projects and events. He works with a broad range of community projects such as UBU Youth Services in Gurranabraher, Mahon and Knocknaheeny, The Kabin Studio Knocknaheeny and CCLSS and is an advocate for inclusivity and the ability of the arts to be transformative and accessible to all.

He facilitates music workshops with both young people and adults in instrumental playing, working together as a group of musicians and also encourages musical creation in different styles.

He graduated from UCC with a BMus and subsequently went on to receive a Graduate Diploma in Music Education from University of Limerick. He continues to further his education through regularly taking part in training events and symposiums relating to different aspects of music education and music provision in the community.

Rory endeavours to create a safe space within his workshops enabling people to freely express their creative ideas and develop their own thoughts around music making. He specialises in teaching guitar, bass, keyboards, singing, composition and music production and works through a multitude of music genres.

As well as producing music for his own practice, Rory collaborates and composes music for public community events. Partners in creative collaboration include Cork Community Artlink, Dowtcha Puppets, Cork Printmakers and The Kabin Studio where he runs regular workshops with the adult community on Cork’s Northside through the Musical Neighbourhoods initiative.
