GaelForce 2018, 2019

Easter 2019 saw the return of GaelForce, the brass, wind and percussion “eggstravaganza” that wowed the crowds in Easter 2018 and provided intensive, free music workshops for young musicians of brass, wind & percussion. Aimed at young people between the ages of 10 – 18, GaelForce was run by Music Generation Cork City in partnership with Cork Barrack Street Band and Cork Academy of Music and supported by CIT Cork School of Music and funded by the Music Generation Creativity & Collaboration Fund, a Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership.

Over three days, young musicians had the opportunity to learn in specially designed workshops, acquiring the skills needed to take part in chamber music, large ensembles and group technique. With a highly trained team of professional musicians at the tutoring-helm, these young musicians saw their musical acumen advance at a pace of knots over the course of the three days.

For the first time ever, GaelForce introduced a “Mentor Scheme” (for ages 14+years)– a new scheme which aims to provide young musicians with the opportunity to arrange score and conduct chamber music groups. Some successful applicants were selected to conduct on concert day!

GaelForce 2019 was kindly funded by the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership through the MG Creativity and Collaboration Fund.
